Before embarking on your Everest Base Camp journey, you may have some common questions, such as:
What is the elevation or height of Everest Base Camp?
The elevation of Everest Base Camp is 5,364 meters, and the highest point of the trek is Kala Patthar, standing at 5,545 meters (18,192 ft).
How long does it take to complete the trek to Mount Everest Base Camp?
The duration of the trek can vary, but a 17-day itinerary in Nepal is recommended for a comfortable and enjoyable Everest Base Camp experience. This includes 12 days of walking, providing ample time to appreciate the spectacular scenery and Himalayan vistas.
To commence the ultimate trekking journey to Everest Base Camp, an exhilarating mountain flight will transport you to Lukla, located at an altitude of 2,800 meters. This flight is suitable for both private and group adventure seekers. Upon arrival, it is advantageous to embark on a three to four-hour hike to Phakding, which lies at a slightly lower altitude of 2,600 meters. This portion of the trek is primarily downhill or flat, offering an opportunity to explore the Gumba (Buddhist Monastery) if time permits.
The following day, we continue our journey to Namche Bazaar (3,500m) with an easy six to seven-hour walk over a reasonably level terrain. This scenic path traverses a charming agricultural area adorned with pine forests and distant snow-clad peaks. Namche Bazaar serves as an ideal acclimatization spot, allowing trekkers to adjust to the altitude and explore its bookshops, gift shops, bakeries, and monasteries.
An early climb to the ridge provides magnificent views of the majestic peaks, followed by breakfast and a possible day-walk excursion to Thamo. The two-hour journey to Thamo promises incredible vistas of Mt. Everest, Thamserku, Kwangde, and Ama Dablam. Additionally, there are excellent lodge facilities available. Continuing for approximately three hours, we reach Thangboche.
The subsequent day entails a challenging ascent to Dingboche, characterized by an initial climb and a long, gradual incline. The altitude at this stage reaches approximately 4,000 meters, contributing to the perceived difficulty. However, the spectacular views, especially of Lhotse and Ama Dablam, make the effort worthwhile. If feeling up to the challenge, an optional two-hour walk to Chukung is available, presenting awe-inspiring views of glaciers and peaks. For the exceptionally fit, an overnight stay at Chukung allows for a sunrise climb to Chukung Ri with a guide. Two nights are spent in Dingboche to aid acclimatization.
The journey continues with hikes to Lobuche (4,950m) and Ghorakshep (5,140m), which is the nearest point to Everest Base Camp. The dream of reaching Everest Base Camp (5,364 meters), the world's highest base camp for trekking, is realized on this day. A subsequent trip to Kalapatthar (5,545m) provides a close-up view of the majestic Mount Everest range, making it the ultimate destination of the Everest Base Camp trek. The return journey encompasses visits to Pangboche (3,985m), Phortse (3,810m), Namche Bazaar, Phakding, and finally Lukla, marking the completion of your dream trek to Everest Base Camp. As flights are not available until the following morning, spending the late afternoon in Lukla offers the opportunity to mingle with fellow trekkers and share stories. The next morning, a flight back to Kathmandu concludes the EBC adventure, leaving you with the freedom to enjoy further sightseeing or shopping activities as desired.
To ensure an optimal trekking experience, it is advised to be well-prepared, physically fit, and mentally ready for the challenges and rewards that await you in the Everest Base Camp trek in 2024/2025.

The ideal time for an Everest base camp trek is either spring (March, April, May) or autumn (September, October, November). During these seasons, the weather is perfect in the high trek regions, with clear skies and stunning views of snow-capped peaks. In spring, the daytime temperature can reach around 20°C, while dropping to -5°C at night.
Similarly, during autumn, temperatures can reach up to 25°C during the day and fall to -10°C at night in the high trek elevations. Additionally, many Nepali festivals take place during autumn, making it a great time to experience the local celebrations while trekking.
While it is still possible to trek during summer (June, July, August) and winter (December, January, February), there are some challenges to consider. In Nepal, summer coincides with the monsoon season, bringing heavy rain to the lower trek regions. The monsoon clouds can obscure mountain views, and flights to Lukla may be delayed. Moreover, the rain can make the trails wet and slippery. At high altitudes, summer temperatures can range from 27°C during the day to 5°C at night.
In winter, heavy snowfall can cover the trails in the high trek regions, and temperatures can drop significantly. At night, temperatures at high altitudes can plummet to -20°C, while the daytime can be a bit warmer, reaching up to 15°C.
Embarking on the Everest Base Camp trek is a formidable yet highly fulfilling adventure. To ensure a successful journey, it is essential to dedicate a few weeks to mental and physical preparation. Regular exercise and jogging leading up to the trip will aid in building stamina.
Even novice trekkers with average fitness levels can conquer this trek. However, the fitter you are, the more enjoyable the experience will be. While prior hiking experience can be advantageous, no technical expertise or specialized skills are required. If you can comfortably hike for 4 to 6 hours each day at a reasonable pace, carrying a light day pack, you should be well-equipped to complete the trek. For individuals with pre-existing medical conditions such as heart, lung, or blood diseases, it is crucial to consult with a physician before booking the trek. This will ensure that proper guidance and precautions are taken to safeguard your health throughout the journey.
Due to the inherent challenges and potential risks associated with the Everest Base Camp Trek, it is of utmost importance to have adequate travel insurance in place. The trek entails potential hazards like altitude sickness and unpredictable weather changes.
For this reason, it is mandatory for all trekkers to possess comprehensive travel insurance. A copy of the policy certificate must be provided to Himalayan Mentor. The insurance policy should include coverage for medical expenses, emergency repatriation (including helicopter rescue and evacuation costs) up to an altitude of 6,000m. While we can offer recommendations based on the feedback of our past clients and our own experience, we do not sell insurance policies ourselves.
We advise trekkers to send us their detailed insurance information while booking the trek. In the event of an emergency, we will utilize the insurance policy and the information provided to facilitate prompt and effective rescue operations.
Prior to purchasing travel insurance, it is strongly recommended to contact the insurance company directly and verify if their plan includes coverage for helicopter rescue up to 6,000m and healthcare expenses. It is crucial not to solely rely on the information provided on their website, as speaking directly with the insurance company will ensure accurate and up-to-date details regarding the coverage.
