If you're seeking an unforgettable hiking adventure, the Annapurna Base Camp trek in Nepal is an ideal choice. This immersive journey typically spans a 2-week itinerary in Nepal. However, if you're looking to optimize your trekking days, the core trek from Pokhara to Pokhara can be condensed into a 10-day experience.
The Annapurna Sanctuary is ensconced by the majestic Himalayan mountains, offering a captivating setting that enthralls both seasoned hikers and novice walkers alike. The trek's crowning moments include the awe-inspiring vistas from Annapurna Base Camp and the panoramic spectacle from Poon Hill, making it a trekking holiday of unparalleled beauty.
Embarking on this adventure begins with a scenic journey to Pokhara, a charming lakeside city nestled near the Annapurna range. The journey alone will leave you breathless as you soak in the mesmerizing scenery. Your trek starts from Nayapul, progressing to Ulleri on the first day, an approximate 5-6 hour trek. The trail then ascends steeply to reach Ghorepani, where you'll spend the night. The following morning, you'll set out for Poon Hill, offering breathtaking views of the Mt. Dhaulagiri range. As you traverse the rhododendron forested area, know that even though the path is uphill, you'll be shaded by the lush canopy. If you embark on this trek in February or March, you'll be treated to the sight and scent of blooming rhododendrons and fragrant Daphne.
The descent to Tadapani is quite long and steep, so a day is dedicated to this leg of the journey, allowing you to traverse picturesque farming countryside. Your trek to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) continues with a visit to Chhomrung village (2,170 meters) and Hotel Himalaya (2,920 meters). As you progress, you'll acclimatize gradually to avoid the risks of high-altitude sickness, ensuring a safe and enjoyable trekking experience.
Before reaching ABC, you'll explore Machhapuchhre Base Camp. After an overnight stay, you'll trek back to Pokhara via charming local villages like Bamboo (2,345 meters) and Jhinu hot spring (1,780 meters). Descending from higher altitudes to lower ones, you'll complete the journey to Pokhara within three walking days.
The Annapurna Base Camp trek offers spectacular views of renowned peaks, including Mt. Machhapuchhre (also known as Mt. Fishtail in English) (6,993 meters), Annapurna I (8,091 meters), Annapurna II, Annapurna South, Himchuli, Baraha Shikhar, Singu Chuli, Gagapurna, and Tent Peak.
