Sikkim Darjeeling Travel Information

    Visa & Permit for Sikkim travel

    All foreigners other than Nepal and Bhutan nationals require a passport with an Indian visa prior to arrival. Visitors require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to enter Sikkim. An ILP is valid for 15 days and can be extended by the state government twice for 30 days each. ILP is available at all Indian missions, Sikkim tourism offices at New Delhi, Kolkata, Siliguri and Sangpo tourist lodge on the basis of an Indian visa.

    Trekking permit is required for every trekker for any areas of North-East India. Trekking holiday is only allowed in groups (minimum two persons) and must be arranged through an authorized travel agent. 

    Best Time to Travel Sikkim/Darjeeling

During the summer you should expect heavy rainfall and sceneries are not visible. The best time to travel in Sikkim/Darjeeling is during the spring season (March, April and May) as days are warm and clear and the October to December.

    Himalayan Mentor highly recommend to every trekkers or travelers  to consult with doctor and do well check up their personal health condition and be vaccinated to malaria, tetanus, typhoid, hepatitis and polio at least 2 months prior to the beginning of trek, tour or other outdoor activities.

    Travelers should bring sufficient amount of money for personal expenses which may you need for meals that not included in package, shopping, for other extra activities, tips and gratuities for guide, staffs and drivers etc. Sikkim/Darjeeling and other towns have ATM facilitates and can be used all the major credit cards frequently.
