Day 01: Kathmandu to Kerung Border (145 km) - 6-7 hours drive
Embark on an early morning scenic drive from Kathmandu, venturing through the picturesque Nepalese countryside. Enjoy the beauty of the landscape as you make your way to Kerung Border, the border between Nepal and Tibet. After completing the necessary border formalities at the Nepalese immigration, continue the journey with an adventurous uphill drive of approximately one hour by Bus & Van (or a two-hour uphill walk in case of landslides) to reach the Chinese immigration. Check-in at a guest house in Kerung or, if time permits, proceed further. Overnight stay at the guest house.
Day 02: Kerung to Tingri (4300m) / Lhatse (4350m) - 225 km/244 km
Embark on a day-long uphill drive, ascending to the highest plateau in the world. Experience the mesmerizing Tibetan landscape, which will make you feel like you are standing on the roof of the world. Day 03: Tingri/Lhaste to Xigatse (3900m) - 244 km
Resume your scenic drive, crossing over Gyatchu La (5220m), the highest pass on the route to Lhasa via Lhatse. As you pass Lhatse, a road to Mt. Kailash diverges to the west. Overnight stay at the Yak Hotel in Xigatse.
Day 04: Xigatse to Gyantse (3950m) to Lhasa
In the morning, explore the Panchen Lama's Tashilhumpu Monastery in Xigatse. Continue the journey to Gyantse and visit the remarkable Kumbum Stupa and Phalkor Monastery. Day 08: Xegar to Kerong Border to Kathmandu - 395 km
Begin your day with an early morning drive to the border. Complete the necessary border procedures and cross back into Nepal. Continue the drive back to Kathmandu, where your journey concludes.
How to book this trip?
This tour can be booked 20 days in advance and you need to be available in Kathmandu minimum 5 working days in advance as it takes a minimum 4 to 5 working days to obtain the Tibet group visa once we apply for it. Furthermore the traveler also needs to be presented at the visa center for Biometrics.
Can I do this tour as a private tour?
If you are a minimum of 4 people in a group, then you can do this tour as 4 people are required in a group to be eligible for the Tibet Group visa application. If you are travelling to Tibet through mainland China, we are applying to arrange the tour even for a solo traveler. You can do the Lhasa to Kathmandu overland tour.
